TOM SENA, FOUNDER OF LARGEST GAY
RIGHT TO LIFE ORGANIZATION (PLAGAL), DIES

The members and friends of PLAGAL, the Pro-Life Alliance of Gays and Lesbians, regret to inform everyone of the unexpected death of their founder, Tom Sena of Washington DC. Tom reportedly died Monday, June 25th, 2001, from complications resulting from a recent serious accident. We understand a memorial service has been scheduled for Friday, July 6, at 1:00 PM, at St. Matthew's Cathedral on Rhode Island Avenue, in NW Washington DC.

Tom founded "Gays Against Abortion" in 1990 in Washington DC and in early 1991 the name was changed to the current name PLAGAL the Pro-Life Alliance of Gays and Lesbians. What started out as one man speaking out for the unborn within the gay and lesbian community is now an organization with well over a thousand nationwide. Tom had the courage to stand up for the unborn in what, at the time, was probably the most hostile community towards the pro-life message. Because of his willingness to be ostracized from his community for the sake of the innocent, he paved the way for open discussion in the gay and lesbian community. More and more gay people are rethinking their position on abortion.

The pro-life movement of today owes Tom Sena a debt of gratitude for truly breaking the stereotypes of what it means to be a pro-lifer. For all of us in PLAGAL, Tom made it okay to be gay and pro-life, and for that we owe him our dignity and life-long respect. Tom will be greatly missed.

PLAGAL will continue the work that Tom began, reaching those that the pro-life movement, in general, has deemed "unreachable."

For the man who dared to say, "Human Rights Start When Human Life Begins," we thank you, Tom, and we will miss you very much.
